Islam, and Christianity.

An ethnic group and religious group can easily get mixed up, but don't get confused. An Ethnic group has the same culture such as food, clothing, and language. An ethnic group can have the same religion but doesn't have to. A religious group has the same religion.

The 3 main ethnic groups in Southwest Asia are the Arabs, Kurds, and Persians. The Arabs mostly practice Sunni Islam, but Shia rules in some parts of Southern Iraq and most of Iran. The Kurds our overwhelmingly Sunni Islam in Turkey, Iraq, and Syria. The Persians are mostly Shia Islam and are in Iran, and all of the "Stans".

The Shia branch of Islam believe to be a leader of worship or Islam , that you have to be a descendent of Muhammad. The Sunni branch believes that whomever is best suited for the job can lead Islam.
